Skavio File Toolbox credits: when size, pages or minutes set the price
Skavio File Toolbox uses different billing units for different work: file size for ordinary conversions, the larger of size-based and page-based charges for source PDFs, and recording duration for audio and video. Knowing which rule applies helps you estimate a job before checking its measured server quote.
Start with the source and the operation
Under Pricing V2, the core File Toolbox rates are: | Work type | Billing basis | Minimum | | --- | --- | --- | | Non-PDF, non-media file conversion | 2 credits per started 25 MB | 2 credits | | Source PDF conversion | Larger of 2 credits per started 25 MB or 2 credits per started 10 pages | 2 credits | | Audio or video conversion | 4 credits per started minute of media | 4 credits | “Started” means any partial billing unit rounds up to a whole unit. A non-media source just over 25 MB therefore uses two size units, not one. These are conversion rates: dedicated OCR, structured extraction, transcription and meeting analysis have separate pricing.
For PDFs, take the larger charge—not both
A source PDF has two pricing bases: its file size and its page count. Calculate each charge separately, then use the larger amount. Do not add them together. The following examples illustrate the rules rather than replace a server quote:
- A 26 MB non-PDF, non-media file: two started 25 MB units × 2 credits = 4 credits.
- An 8 MB, 21-page PDF: the size charge is 2 credits; the page charge is 6 credits. The larger amount is 6 credits.
- A 90 MB, 12-page PDF: the size charge is 8 credits; the page charge is 4 credits. The larger amount is 8 credits.
- Two separate 26 MB files that are neither PDFs nor media: each rounds to 4 credits, giving 8 credits in total. Rounding applies per source, not to a pooled batch size.
A media minute is recording time, not processing time
Audio and video conversion uses media duration: 4 credits per started minute, with a 4-credit minimum. A 60-second recording therefore costs 4 credits to convert; a 61-second recording costs 8 credits. These minutes describe the source recording—not how long a server spends converting it. That distinction matters when comparing services. FreeConvert’s official pricing FAQ defines conversion minutes by time spent converting files on its servers. Convertio describes conversion credits in terms of server processing time. The research brief records both definitions as checked on 20 October 2026; the official sources are linked below. Those units are not interchangeable with Skavio’s media-duration minutes or credits. A headline allowance alone does not establish which service will cost less for a particular workload.
The same recording can lead to a different kind of job
Converting a recording to another supported format is not the same operation as turning its speech into text or producing a meeting report. Choose the required output before applying a rate.
- File Toolbox media conversion: 4 credits per started minute, minimum 4 credits.
- Skavio Transcribe: 8 credits per started minute, minimum 8 credits.
- Skavio Meeting: 15 credits per started minute, minimum 15 credits.
Use the measured quote to confirm the estimate
File Toolbox, Transcribe, Meeting, Flow and the Processing API share one company Pricing V2 wallet. The wallet is shared; the rates still depend on the operation. Submission reserves the measured quote. A successful job charges once, while a permanent failure releases the reservation. A reservation is therefore distinct from a completed charge. For planning, identify the operation, apply rounding to each source and check the measured quote before submission. Dedicated OCR and Flow extraction use their own page-based rates, so the ordinary PDF conversion rule should not be applied to every PDF task. For partial-page selections or multi-stage work, rely on the measured quote rather than assuming how the examples extend.
